They say that being a writer is like giving yourself homework to do every day for the rest of your life.
In my case, I gave myself some work to do a couple of weeks ago.
I mentioned before that I spend time on the weekends planning out the work I’ll do for the next week. (Well, in this case this weekend, it will be for after Thanksgiving, because I have work lined up until the day before!) In doing so, I had a full week of sending out short stories to different markets.
Only, these stories which I planned to submit were not ready to go. They all required revision! (Why I never got around to revising them after writing those first drafts, I’ll never know.)
So that’s what I spent the week working on: Revising and submitting short stories!
At least, that’s what I was doing from Monday through Friday.
As the weekend approached, I thought, Why not keep up with revising fiction?
I DID have a children’s book that I kept forgetting to revise. Plus, there are quite a few other fiction books I have to revise as well.
So, on Saturday, I revised the children’s book. Today, I spent some time working on revisions for the YA novel.
I am glad I got that all done, especially since I have been so busy lately that I have hardly had the time to work on revisions for the books I already have written! (Maybe I can make working on book and novel revisions a weekend thing!)
I am also glad those stories are now in their final drafts, because even if some of them are rejected, at least I’ll have another story ready to send out somewhere else!
What’s New This Week
I am so forgetful that I forgot to include my article published in WritersWeekly at the end of October! (It was a late addition to the full issue of the SPARREW Newsletter on the dmcwriter site!) But, yes, WritersWeekly published my article "8 Paying Literary Magazines for Writers (And One That Pays $3,000)!" and you can check it out here.
Also, I have finally jumped on the bandwagon and joined Bluesky!
I noticed a lot of people I knew gravitating to that site, so I signed up as well! You can find me on there at this link.
Book News
I guess it was bound to happen: I started writing another poetry book! This one has been in my head for some time, but I never got around to starting it. Well, I started it! Time will tell how it turns out.

Write a book in one month.
Pick any kind of nonfiction book idea you have and get busy writing it!
Whether the book you choose to write is about something you know a lot about or an idea for a nonfiction book you have had for some time, challenge yourself to get that book written.
You may need to do some pre-planning before taking on this challenge. Write notes, do research, and create an outline. Spend some time thinking about this book idea and what you want this book to accomplish.
